Comets boys basketball stay undefeated with 2-0 weekend

The Raymond Comets varsity boys basketball team tacked on two more wins to stay undefeated in Southern Alberta High School Basketball League play.
In a clash of the top-two teams, the Comets got past the Cardston Cougars 117-97 Friday night in Raymond and scored another home court win Saturday, defeating the LCI Rams 113-88.
With the wins, the Comets remain atop the SAHSBL at 12-0.
On Saturday, three Raymond players hit the 20-point mark as Jeter Heggie and Liam Davison each had 23 points and Drake Still added 20.
Brady Baines scored 19 points for the Comets and Boston Harker hit for 16.
For the Rams, Tanner French led the way with 22 points, Garrett Procee scored 17 and David Kindley had 15.
In the junior varsity game the Rams won 76-72 on a 21-point outing from Crew Hirsche. Carson Procee and Asher Bridge each scored 11 points for LCI and Sam McLeod added 10.
Ryker Dewsbery led the Comets with 23 points and West James and Izaak Long each had 13. Mason Leavitt chipped in with 11 points for Raymond.
On Friday against Cardston, Harker hit for 29 points and Heggie added 22. Payson Hill, Baines and Still scored 19, 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Braxen Scott and Isaac Atwood led the Cougars with 17 points each. Graedon Woodward bucketed 15 and Mitch Nelson had 11.
The Comets won the junior varsity game 100-52 as Dewsbery had a 30-point night. James put up 17 points, Long hit for 15 and Leavitt had 13.
Hayden Weasel Head led Cardston with 14 points and Hyrum Scott scored 11.
In other boys play Saturday night, the Magrath Zeniths improved to 7-5 to remain in third place thanks to a 92-59 win over the Catholic Central Cougars in Magrath.
Dray Walburger had 39-points for the Zeniths. Colton Finck scored 13, while Garrett Stock and Mac Strong each had 10.
Leading Catholic Central was Nikolai Westwood with 23 points. Josh Crawford chipped in with 19.
The Zeniths won the junior varsity game, powered by a 26-point outing from Ty Michelson. Cody Scheirlinck scored 12 points, Joseph Van Bruggen and J.T. Smith had 11 and  Hunter Cook put up 10 for Magrath.
Derek Trapp had 16 points for the Cougars. Sebastian Plarisan and Jordan Hawkins chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
In Cardston Saturday night, the Cougars downed the Medicine Hat Mohawks 85-59.
Leading Cardston was Rhett Lewis with 22 points, while Woodward added 18.
Also hitting double digits for the Cougars were Drasyn Card (14), Scott (13) and Atwood (10).
Ethan Egert led Medicine Hat with 18 points and Kai Noon hit for 12.
Cardston won the junior varsity game 73-45 as Scott put up 28 points. Mitch Francis added 15 points for the Cougars and Brysen Scott had 10.
In the other boys game Saturday night the Chinook Coyotes posted a 76-54 home win over the Winston Churchill Bulldogs.
On Friday, Catholic Central got past the Bulldogs 74-60 as Tate Stroud and Sebastian Plarisan each scored 16 points. Raphael Batingal scored 12 points for Catholic Central and Josh Crawford had 10.
Leading the Bulldogs was Tyreese Russell with 15 points. Kevin Davies had 13 for Winston Churchill and Marcus Pauly had 10.
In the junior varsity game the Cougars won 80-50.
Dave Dahoe had  21 points and Plarison added 11 for Catholic Central.
Magna Bukura scored 14 points for the Bulldogs and Phillippe Martin hit for 12.
In the other Friday game, the Mohawks defeated Magrath 88-63 in Medicine Hat.
In girls play Saturday, the Comets improved to 11-1 with an 80-72 win over LCI.
Leading the Comets was Saige Gibb with 20 points, while Abby Graves scored 17. Kyla Bohne put up 13 points for Raymond and Kyra Collier had 10.
For the Clippers, Presley Heggie scored 20 points, Maddi Boehme drained 15 and Annah Westrop had 10.
In the junior varsity game Raymond won 77-70, led by Drew Armener’s 32 points. Mataya Francis scored 16 points for the Comets and Jane Heggie had 10.
Kenzie Kutsch topped LCI with 17 points. Morgan Hill and Faith Heggie each added 13 points for the Clippers.
On Friday, the Comets got past Cardston 85-57, led by Gibb’s 16 points.
Bohne added 15 for Raymond and Graves had 13.
The Cougars were topped by Jill Leishman with 14 points and Tylor Merrill with 12.
In the junior varsity game the Comets won 66-45 as Armener led the way with 21 points. Heggie, Francis and Ivory Romeril each had 11.
Sasha Elliot topped Cardston with 11 points.
In other play Saturday, the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels got past the Chinook Coyotes 68-43 at Chinook High School.
The Rebels were paced by Hayley Jones’s 15 points. Abby Wood and Anika Steed added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Takeo Uyesugi topped the Coyotes with 13 points and Shayanne Howe-Chambers scored 10.
The Coyotes won the junior varsity game in a close 48-43 affair as Megan Lea scored 16 points and Marin Ferguson had 14.
Bryanne Jones had nine points for the Rebels.
In Cardston Saturday night, the Medicine Hat Kwahommies downed the Cougars 62-59 as Hailee Parker had 22 points for Medicine Hat.
Tylor Merrill scored 15 points for Cardston and Abby Nelson had 12.
The Kwahommies won the junior varsity game 72-66.
Whitney Parker had 21 points for Medicine Hat.
Kamryn Nelson and Blakely Shyaw replied with 10 points each for Cardston.
In varsity girls play in Magrath Saturday, the Pandas beat Catholic Central 67-39.
Emily Hall had 17 points for the Pandas and Abi Payne added 12.
For Catholic Central, Gracyn Hay had 13 points and Claire Talbot chipped in with 11.
In girls play Friday night, the Pandas beat Medicine Hat 77-44 in Medicine Hat, Catholic Central edged W.R. Myers 60-58 and LCI beat Chinook 100-36.
