The opening day of the Alberta Schools Athletic Association curling provincials drew in Thursday afternoon at the Lethbridge Curling Club.
Hosted by LCI, the boys, girls and mixed teams – 10 in each division – got in the first three draws with play resuming today at 9 a.m.
In the opening 12:30 p.m. boys draw Thursday, LCI downed Cremona 7-5, Chinook got past Castor Gus Wetter 8-4 and Warner lost to Calgary Henry Wise Wood 8-3.
In the girls opening draw, LCI beat Cochrane 7-5, while in the mixed division Coaldale Kate Andrews topped Wainwright Blessed Sacrament 9-4.
In the 3:30 p.m. girls draw Vulcan County Central lost 6-3 to Wainwright. The Catholic Central mixed team downed Calgary William Aberhart 12-1 and LCI lost a close one, 5-4 to Cochrane.
The LCI boys improved to 2-0 in the 6:30 p.m. draw with a 7-4 win over Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan. Chinook also won their second of the day with an 8-3 decision over Warner.
The LCI girls also moved to 2-0 thanks to a 9-5 win over Edmonton Harry Ainlay, while County Central lost 6-4 to Delia.
In late mixed action, LCI defeated Archbishop Jordan 8-3 and Catholic Central edged Kate Andrews 6-5.
The draws today start at 9 a.m. and will be followed with draws at 11:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
If necessary, the tiebreakers will go 8:30 a.m. Saturday with all three division semifinals following at 11 a.m.
The gold and bronze medal games will take place at 2 p.m.
