The Lethbridge Headwater midget 15 Hurricanes came up one game short of the gold medal game, but didn’t come home empty-handed.
The Canes defeated the Calgary Royals 6-1 in the bronze medal game of the Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League South Sutter Cup Sunday afternoon in Calgary.
Lethbridge narrowly missed the gold medal game following a 5-4 loss to the AC Avalanche – the same team the Canes spent most of the season battling for second place in the AMMHL South Division – Saturday night.
In the loss to the Avalanche Saturday, Zachary Rajcic scored the first two Hurricanes goals and Sheldon Sawyer and Vann Yuhas added one each. Peyton Twigg added two assists for the Hurricanes.
Kaiden Fulton stopped 29 shots.
There was no scoresheet for Sunday’s game available at press time.
The Hurricanes went 25-5-7 in the regular season to take second place in the AMMHL South Division, clinching that spot on the final day of the regular season.
The Okotoks Oilers, who placed first in the South Division in the regular season, blanked the Avalanche 3-0 in the gold medal game Sunday.
