LETHBRIDGE HERALD

A 29-year-old man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection with the first Lethbridge homicide in two years has been arrested.

Mohamud Omar Dhiblawe, 29, of Toronto, was arrested March 6 in Regina following the execution of an unrelated drug search warrant at a residence.

Dhiblawe is charged with one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 35-year-old man in early February. He’s also charged in connection with a homicide in Edmonton.

On Feb. 6, just after 10:30 p.m. police responded to a report of a shooting at a residence along the 200 block of University Drive West. Upon arrival, officers located the body of a 35-year-old male inside the home. The man’s body was transported to the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy confirmed the manner of death was homicide. The identity of the victim will not be released.

Investigation determined the matter was a targeted incident and the parties involved were known to one another. Information obtained by investigators alleges a verbal dispute surrounding the illicit drug trade occurred between the victim and the accused, resulting in the victim being fatally shot.

Dhiblawe will be returned to Alberta later this week to answer to his charges. Court dates have not yet been set.
