Susan Storey

1948 – 2020

Our dear friend Susan will be greatly missed by her “Lethbridge Family” of more than forty years. She was the extra grandma and “auntie” to six children whom she cared for dearly and showered with much love and affection. Teaching for as many years, Susan shared her art, poetry, playfulness and knowledge with our family here as well as any visiting extended cousins. She tutored more than one of the crew at various times and over any academic and social bumps, loved attending symphony as well as children’s recitals and sports events; and didn’t mind practicing her pitch with the young ball players.

Following her retirement from the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division where she taught at St. Patrick Fine Arts School, she often was a volunteer in the classrooms and took time to read to and coach when one of the kids needed an extra hand. As friends we were always amazed at how much she knew about repair, maintenance, and design. If we needed to borrow any kind of tool, Susan had it and could teach us how to use it. As our children grew, she joined us on trips to New York, Montreal and San Francisco for graduations and art shows. On occasion she helped out as a driver or childcare sitter as the grandkids came and the households got busier and rarely missed a “Tuesday dinner,” a birthday party, or a special holiday together.

Susan enjoyed the peace and tranquility of her pristine yard and flower garden, always adding a personal creative touch with her painting, carving or sewing. She usually had a bird and several fish with an outdoor pond. She loved art and painting and was a great collector of, among other things, rabbits, birds, children’s toys and Santa’s. She, along with her dear brother Father Michael, cared deeply for her family in BC and Quebec, traveling often to see them while maintaining at least two households. Each of our children, their parents and grandparents sat, sang, and sent loving messages through many days of illness, in both joy and sorrow, until the peaceful passing of our Auntie Susan.

We will never forget you, dear Susan, a true friend. Always in our hearts and minds

Keeping you in the light of infinite compassion.

Lorita, Akira, Andrew, Tahirih, Maya, Marko, Kai, Sam, Asha, Lily, Akeo and Seiji
