Pronghorn rugby adds key recruit

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s rugby team has announced a second player to next year’s recruiting class with the addition of Sam Ganske.
Ganske joins local product Teagan Viney as the first two women’s rugby recruits for next fall.
“Sam is returning to Alberta after playing rugby in the U.K. for a few years and we are over the moon that she has chosen to play varsity rugby at the University of Lethbridge,” said Pronghorn head coach Neil Langevin in a news release. “She will complement our veteran group next year and will be a welcome addition to our backline.
“Living and playing overseas has helped Sam develop as a player and her maturity will help her compete in the most competitive conference in the country. I am looking forward to seeing her compete here.”
Originally from Stoney Plain, Ganske will bring a unique background to the Pronghorn program after being six years removed from high school and spending the past two seasons in England playing with the Old Albanian Saints. With the Saints, Ganske was part of winning the South Championships 2, Promotional Playoff and Intermediate Cup Winners.
The five-foot-five back played high school rugby for Spruce Grove Composite High School and was named high school MVP in 2014.
She also played club rugby with the Parkland Sharks Rugby Club in the Tri-Municipal area of Spruce Grove, Stoney Plain and Parkland County.
Ganske plans to pursue a degree in kinesiology and psychology during her time at the U of L.
