A Lethbridge man facing several charges following a drug bust at a northside home earlier this month made his first appearance in Lethbridge provincial court Thursday.
Jason Robert Bertram, 46, appeared by closed-circuit TV from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, where he has been remanded since he and a 38-year-old Lethbridge woman were arrested and charged. Bertram’s matter was simply adjourned to March 26 for a bail hearing, while the woman, who was not required to attend court Thursday, is scheduled for a hearing April 2.
Last month, police received numerous complaints from citizens about drug trafficking activity at a home in the 1700 block of 2 A Avenue North. Following a short-term investigation, officers searched the home and arrested one man. A woman, who was not home at the time, turned herself over to police later.
During the search of the home and suspects, police seized small quantities of methamphetamine and carfentanil, a rifle hidden under a mattress, knives, pellet guns, bear spray, ammunition, a stolen Suzuki motorcycle, various tools and identity documents.
Bertram is charged with possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence, knowingly possess an unauthorized firearm, careless storage of a firearm, three counts of possession of stolen property, four counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a stolen credit card, possession of the proceeds of crime, eight counts of failing to comply with a release order, possession for the purpose of trafficking and causing a child to be drug-endangered.
The woman, who was released from custody shortly after her arrest, is charged with a single count of causing a child to be drug endangered.
