Facebook group offering help to locals in need

A the Lethbridge Support Circle group on Facebook that is bringing the community together in a time of isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic to share resources with individuals in need.
Lethbridge Support Circle opened to the public last Friday and already has just under 2,000 members who are looking for help or supplies, and people willing to offer help and support.
“During this time of concern if you, for whatever reason, are unable to access groceries, the pharmacy, the library, whatever else you need, message this group and we will co-ordinate a support response,” said Jenn Prosser, group administrator. “We call on all folks in our community to consider the needs of others when buying supplies. We encourage folks only take what they need and can use, while being mindful that everyone needs supplies.”
The group is offering all types of support from groceries, cleaning supplies, shovelling snow, babysitting, needing a car ride, or even having someone to talk to, individuals can reach out in the group and find support.
As many community members are currently away from work or school at the moment, there’s an opportunity for people to volunteer time to make meals or deliver supplies to people. If people are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have a diagnosed case, they are asked to not physically deliver goods or services, as well as taking the proper sanitizing precautions if using the services.
“If you are interested in volunteering to support folks by making meals delivering goods to homes, or help in other ways, message us and we will add you as a volunteer supporter,” said Prosser. “While everyone is welcome to volunteer, please ensure you are taking care of yourself, too. If you are ill, have autoimmune concerns or live with folks with autoimmune issues, please don’t feel pressured to put yourself at risk.”
Each day, dozens of requests and offerings of help are being made on the Lethbridge Support Circle Facebook page where individuals who are forced to quarantine, have accessibility issues, or any other reason can find the support they need.
