A Lethbridge man who has been in custody since he and a 38-year-old Lethbridge woman were arrested earlier this month has been released on bail.
Jason Robert Bertram, 46, was released Thursday following a brief bail hearing in Lethbridge provincial court. He was ordered to pay $300 bail, report weekly to the Lethbridge Police Service, reside at a northside residence, obey a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. every day, and not possess any weapons or illicit drugs.
Bertram faces charges of possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence, knowingly possess an unauthorized firearm, careless storage of a firearm, possession of stolen property, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a stolen credit card, possession of the proceeds of crime, failure to comply with a release order, drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and causing a child to be drug-endangered.
The woman, who was released from custody shortly after her arrest, is charged with a single count of causing a child to be drug endangered.
The two accused were arrested after police received numerous complaints from citizens about drug trafficking activity at a home in the 1700 block of 2 A Avenue North. Following a short-term investigation, officers searched the home and arrested one man. A woman, who was not home at the time, turned herself over to police later.
During the search of the home and suspects, police seized small quantities of methamphetamine and carfentanil, a rifle hidden under a mattress, knives, pellet guns, bear spray, ammunition, a stolen Suzuki motorcycle, various tools and identity documents.
Bertram’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 4, while the woman is set to make her first court appearance Thursday.
