‘Art’s Alive and Well’ sends the message home

Art’s Alive and Well in the schools is a yearly art exhibit put on by all the Lethbridge city schools, and this year it will continue with a new twist of working on the exhibit at home.

The collaboration between the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division, Lethbridge School Division and École La Vérendrye is displayed in co-operation with the Southern Alberta Art Gallery and usually takes place in the spring.

This year will have a different look due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the current reality of isolation, organizers are planning an Art’s Alive and Well in… Our Homes. Organizers are hoping families will encourage their children to participate by creating and then photographing their work to submit, to help create an art exhibit that will make up the 43rd annual Arts Alive.

Categories include elementary, junior high and high school divisions. Artwork can be made under any form from paintings, sculptures, clay creations and more. All of the artwork submitted, unless inappropriate, will be displayed. Organizers are asking participants to only submit one piece per student.

After the organizers receive all of the submissions, they will put them together on the Lethbridge School Division and Holy Spirit Catholic School Division websites. The Southern Alberta Art Gallery will also be promoting the exhibition which is set to launch on May 1.

There will also be an opportunity for everyone in the community to vote for their favourite works on the Lethbridge School Division website after the launch date. On May 22, they will tally the votes and announce who received the most likes.

The purpose of the Art’s Alive and Well in Our Homes is meant to enjoy the artwork of the students and share the joy of creating and displaying their art.
