Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, sport events and programs have been cancelled, postponed or otherwise adjusted.
The Lethbridge Sport Council staff are working remotely to advocate for and serve our membership and community through this pandemic.
The Sport Council’s response to COVID-19 is posted on their website found by clicking on the banner at the bottom of the home page https://lethbridgesportcouncil.ca. Blog articles are regularly updated to create a comprehensive collection of resources for active families and local sport organizations.
Education and Training at Home is a collection of free or low-cost sport and related online courses, webinars, and workshops.
Financial Support for Sport Through COVID-19 includes government subsidies and announcements, webinars and resources, and grants to help sport sustain current and anticipated impacts of the pandemic.
Sport organizations are reinventing themselves as they try to survive the COVID-19 pandemic. Many must respond creatively to restrictions announced by their governing bodies and facility landlords.
To encourage people to stay active and to engage with their membership and clientele, where possible organizations have taken to virtual classes, training, and challenges. Active at Home through Active Recreation and Sport has links to mainly local organizations and businesses who are offering virtual active living and sport activities, training lessons, and fitness workouts.
As written on SIRC.ca by Dr. Katie Misener, University of Waterloo, “Community sport organizations are a central thread to the fabric of Canadian society, providing a meaningful place for people to play, compete, volunteer, coach, and interact with others … hav(ing) a unique platform of influence, engaging millions of children and adults across the country each year.”
In these challenging times, it is especially important to honour these influential members of our sport community for their spirit, drive, and commitment to sport in Lethbridge in what is the 10th anniversary Lethbridge Sport Council Achievement Awards.
Fifteen recipients including athletes, coaches, volunteers, administrators, businesses, and organizations are being recognized in the first virtual video production complete with acceptance speeches.  These achievements are sure to bring a smile to your face and be a bright light in these challenging times.
