Man sentenced to time served, but still in custody

A Standoff man didn’t wait long after his 18th birthday to rack up his first criminal conviction as an adult.
Kohl Lukas Shouting, who legally became an adult when he turned 18 on Feb. 6, was convicted Wednesday in Lethbridge provincial court on several charges.
Shouting, who has a criminal record as a youth, pleaded guilty to charges of breaching a probation order, breaching a release order and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was sentenced to two weeks in jail, but given full credit for time he already spent in pre-trial custody.
Court was told Shouting was the subject of a drug investigation March 31 when police, during the early morning hours, searched his residence and found a Samurai sword, a Glock BB gun, two machetes and a sheathed knife.
Crown prosecutor Bruce Ainscough pointed out Shouting had previously been prohibited under a probation order and release order not to own or possess any firearms or other weapons, except a knife if it is used for eating. The knife and other weapons seized by police were forfeited to the Crown for destruction.
Although Shouting has effectively served his sentence on the breach and weapon charges, he still faces other criminal charges and remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court on those charges Friday.
