A southern Alberta man caught last year with a stolen motor vehicle was given a break after he pleaded guilty in Lethbridge provincial court Thursday.

Jimmy Lynn Bad Man pleaded to one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and was sentenced to 60 days in jail.

Crown prosecutor Clayton Giles told court the offence, combined with Bad Man’s criminal record, would normally be worth three to five months in jail, but because the accused co-operated with police, admitted he knew the vehicle was stolen and pleaded guilty, Giles recommended only two months.

Lethbridge police were notified of a suspicious vehicle and found Bad Man sitting in the driver’s seat. He told them he received the vehicle from a person he met in Lethbridge last November and, even though he knew it was stolen, drove it to an area near Standoff.

Although sentenced to 60 days in jail, Bad Man was given credit for the equivalent of 15 days spent in pre-trial custody, leaving him with 45 days to serve.

Bad Man returns to court Thursday, as well, where he will face additional charges of break and enter, and robbery.
