As police continue to investigate a fatal pedestrian collision that happened on Monday in a southside alley, the father of the man who died made a visit to the scene of the collision trying to make sense of the loss.

Arnold Healy, who said his son Austin (AJ) Across The Mountain was the victim of the collision, spoke about him as a quiet man who spent his time with friends. Healy said the incident happened as his son was returning home where he had been living with his father just down the lane from the collision site near Fleetwood-Bawden School.

Police say that on Monday afternoon they responded to a report of a collision between a yellow Dodge Ram truck and a male pedestrian in the west alley along the 900 block of 13 Street South. Upon arrival, a female occupant had exited the truck and was attending to the victim. Before police arrived, they say, a male occupant in the truck fled in the vehicle. Witnesses also reported a male, who had been walking with the victim, fled on foot.

The victim was transported to hospital and died from his injuries later that evening.

Police on Tuesday said they were able to locate the missing truck, but at that time had made no arrests in connection with the collision.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police.
