The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s volleyball team headed down Highway 3 for their latest recruit.
The Kodiaks announced Thursday that Medicine Hat’s Shane Fowlie has committed to join the Kodiaks for the 2020-21 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season.
“We have been watching Shane since our high school tournament last year,” says Kodiaks head coach Anna Schwark in a release. “She really caught my eye at the tournament because of her presence on the court. She is very athletic and very strong so we knew she would be able to keep up with the pace of our play.”
The graduate of Monsignor McCoy High School is a two-time South East Zone Volleyball League all-star and helped Monsignor McCoy claim the 2019 SEZVL championship.
Fowlie has also had success at the club level, helping her South East Alberta Volleyball Club Broncos U17 squad capture silver at provincials last year.
She was also named to the Volleyball Alberta U17 Division II all-star team.
While the global pandemic has placed uncertainty around next season, Fowlie says she can’t wait to get back on the court with her new teammates.
“From the first time I practised with the Kodiaks I felt welcomed by the team and enjoyed working with the coaches,” said Fowlie. “I am very excited to be a part of this team. I have been looking forward to a higher level of competition and I can’t wait to take my volleyball career to the next level by becoming a Kodiak. Being able to join a team with such awesome girls and coaches makes this opportunity very special.”
Fowlie will begin her pursuit of an education degree when classes begin this fall.
