LETHBRIDGE HERALD – STANDOFF
The Blood Tribe has announced that an Elder died earlier this week from complications due to COVID-19.
A press release said the Blood Tribe Emergency Management Team is continuing its containment efforts to keep the COVID-19 virus from spreading within the Blood Reserve and that Friday’s announcement respected the time and space of family and friends in coping with their significant loss.
Provincial data reported the death in Cardston County on Tuesday, the only listed COVID-19-related fatality outside of the community of Brooks in the South Zone. As of Friday Cardston County, which includes the Blood Reserve, listed 32 total cases, 12 of those being active and 19 recovered.
During Friday’s provincial briefing, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw specifically highlighted the work being done by the Blood Tribe to contain cases of COVID-19 within that community.
