YMCA Lethbridge announced the second part of their public opening as part of the provincial phases of reopening from COVID-19.
Starting on July 18, the gym and fitness centre are set to open, along with the aquatic centre, as long as repairs on the facility are completed by that time.
“The Cor Van Raay YMCA ATB Centre Phase 2 will reopen to the public on July 18,” says Ross Jacobs, director of communications, YMCA Lethbridge. “We intend to open up all areas of our facility as permitted by AHS. This includes the fitness centre and gyms; our aquatics facility is currently under repair and our intent is to open it on July 18, but this will be dependent on the completion of the repairs by our partners at the City of Lethbridge.”
Remaining closed due to Alberta Health Services restrictions will include the hot tub, steam rooms, Tollestrup play space, the teen and youth room, child minding, group bookings and private rentals. People who are using the fitness or gym facilities are encouraged to change before showing up as changing room space is limited.
YMCA Lethbridge has also launched a new booking model for members and guests to book spaces for a 75-minute time slot in one of their open centres per day.
“Over the past year the Cor Van Raay YMCA has been a great casual community gathering space, but with contact tracing requirements, we are moving to an advanced booking model for the foreseeable future,” says Jacobs. “All members, guests and program participants must pre-register before arrival via our online registration portal at ymca.ca, or by calling us at 403-942-5757. If you do not have a registered space, you will not be granted access to the facility at this time. All bookings will be a 75-minute time slot in either the fitness centre, aquatic centre and gyms. Each member or guest will be able to make one 75-minute booking in one of the three areas per day.”
Families are able to book a time slot together, but a time slot must be selected for each member of the family. Memberships to the YMCA remain in effect until December where they can choose to renew or have it cancelled.
“All membership accounts will remain on hold with no payments due until Dec. 1, 2020. If a member chooses not to renew before Dec. 1, 2020, their membership will be cancelled,” says Jacobs. “Members must actively reach out to us to activate their memberships by calling 403-942-5757. This will allow us to activate your memberships and online account. There is no pressure for them to do so and we want our members to return to the facility when they feel comfortable to do so.”
