Ethan Choi surged up the leaderboard in the final day of the Alberta Men’s Amateur Championship in Medicine Hat.

The member of the Pincher Creek Golf Club shot a final round, two-under 69 Thursday afternoon to finish with a three-day, nine-over 222 and a tie for 28th overall.

It wasn’t enough for a tournament win, but it was an improvement after Choi posted rounds of 80 on Tuesday and 73 on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Choi drained three straight birdies on the fourth, fifth and sixth holes after opening with a birdie on the first to go four under on the front nine.

He also birdied the 15th hole, but a double bogey on the 14th hole and a bogey on the 17th put Choi at two-over on the back nine.

In other local scores, Justin Nagy of Henderson Lake shot 79 Thursday for a total 20-over 233 to finish 58th, while Jesse Sawyer of the Picture Butte Golf Club finished tied for 60th at 22-over 235 following an 81 Thursday.
