Nearly 80 baseball players will step in front of the camera today at Spitz Stadium.
The Prep Baseball Report will hold its Alberta Summer Open ID today, starting at 9 a.m. and running until roughly 5 p.m.
Even as COVID-19 keeps baseball leagues in the dugout, today’s clinic will give the next crop of teenaged baseball players the chance to show off their skills via the Internet for potential recruits.
“It’s for high school kids to showcase their skills in front of college coaches,” said Prairie Baseball Academy varsity head coach Todd Hubka, adding most of the players at today’s clinic are between the ages of 15 and 17 with a few 14 and 18-year-olds also likely onhand.
PBR events are designed to give players the maximum exposure needed to advance to the next level. The players are not only given high-level exposure with college coaches, but will also be videotaped with the edited performance hosted on the PBR website.
All players will receive an online profile with their verified statistics, scouting report, picture and video.
As well, future stories written about the prospect will be linked to the player’s profile to create some one-stop shopping for recruiters.
The top players will be listed in the statewide player rankings and overall rankings.
Hubka said roughly 10 local players will take the plate and the field as well as throwing sessions at the clinic.
Among the scouts attending is former Lethbridge Bull and current San Diego Padres scout Chris Kemlo.
