Horns’ rugby adds Moffat as coach

With all sports organizations facing exceptional circumstances this fall as sports return to train, the Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s rugby program is thrilled to add experience to the program’s coaching staff with the addition of long-time rugby coach Graeme Moffat.

Moffat is currently the Executive Director of Rugby Alberta, a position that he has held since 2017 and was previously the Director of Rugby for Rugby Alberta.

“I am thrilled that our players will get to benefit from the talents of Moff,” said Pronghorn head coach Neil Langevin in a statement. “He has a unique and impressive blend of charisma, ability to build positive relationships, technical knowledge, administrative prowess and experience in the rugby world.

“With the structural changes with Pronghorn Athletics our staff recognized a need to add a coach and we look forward to learning from Graeme.”

Moffat also brings a wealth of national team experience spending seven years with Rugby Canada as an assistant coach.

From 2011 to 2018 Moffat served as an attack, backs and skills coach for the Canadian National program. He was also on the coaching staff for the 2015 Rugby World Cup hosted in England and the U20 Canadian Rugby team that were runners up at the 2013 Junior World Trophy tournament.

The Pronghorn rugby program will face a unique season this year with the cancellation of the Canada West fall sports competition but are focussed on spending the fall on player and team development. The Pronghorn women’s rugby team will return to practice Sept. 2.

Canada West will make a decision on the Canada West Sevens Series, slated to start in January 2021, on Oct. 8.
