Rotary Ribfest returning this month with a new look

The Lethbridge Rotary Ribfest will be back for its second straight year but as a drive-thru event.

Kaela Corazza, Rotary Ribfest co-chair, says the Downtown Rotary Club has been working with Western Canada Ribfest Tour to find a way to bring this popular event to Lethbridge while still following COVID-19 limitations.

“By having a drive-thru order and pickup Corazza says, people can enjoy the ribs without leaving their vehicles,” Corazza said in a news release. “The Ribbers will practise all COVID-19 and Alberta Health food handling practices.”

She adds people can pick up food and go home, park and watch entertainment on the ATCO stage or walk around and see the other vendors displaying RVs and automobiles.”

“Enmax has been very helpful for us to host this event there. It will be Sept. 18-20 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.”

Corazza says the participating Ribbers will be Billy’s BBQ, Buckeye BBQ, Camp 31 and Pistol Pete’s Smokehouse.

“These four award-winning teams will be serving ribs, pulled pork, chicken, sausage and everything else that Ribfest lovers were treated to last year. More than 15,000 people attended last year and $12,000 was raised for Rotary causes.

Lethbridge Rotary Club president Allan Friesen says all proceeds of Ribfest 2020 will go toward the club’s fundraising events that help Rotary members support local and global causes.

“Our club sponsors local projects like our $100,000 donation to the Big Brothers Big Sisters building project, our Rotary Spray Parks, donations to the Food Bank and Soup Kitchen as well as sponsorships, exchanges and educational opportunities for local youth,” says Friesen in the release.

He adds the Lethbridge Rotary’s international work supports education and clean water projects in several countries and helps with the fight to eradicate polio.

“So, the bigger the Ribfest is this year, the more funds we raise to help others. Hold the date for this historic event,” says Friesen.

Corazza says, the route of how rib lovers will drive through the Enmax Centre is being designed and will be announced once complete.
