ROTARY CLUB OF LETHBRIDGE (DOWNTOWN) – RIBFEST 2020 DRIVE-THRU VOLUNTEERS
Join the Rotary Club of Lethbridge for Ribfest Drive-Thru-style Sept. 18, 19, and 20 at the Enmax Centre. Four award-winning BBQ teams will be there serving ribs, pulled pork, chicken, sausage, and everything else that Ribfest lovers look forward to every year. Bonus! There will be other food trucks as well. Buy your food right from your vehicle. Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting local charities. They are looking for volunteers to share their special talent with Ribfest customers as they wait in their vehicle for their food! They will have a stage built and some equipment for those needing this. Any and all talents are invited! They also have 2 positions available to help with selling 50/50 tickets and controlling traffic. This event will be safe and follow all safety and health guidelines. FAMILY CENTRE SOCIETY – HIGHWAY CLEANUP VOLUNTEER
Family Centre Society, based in Lethbridge, is a non-profit organization providing a comprehensive range of services to children, youth, and families in Southwestern Alberta. Family Centre is looking for 10-12 volunteers who could help on Sept. 19 with their Highway cleanup. 4-8-hour shifts are available. LETHBRIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY – READ ON ADULT LEARNING AND ESL PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS
The Lethbridge Public Library’s (LPL) Read On Program relies on adult volunteers to tutor adult students one-on-one or in small groups. The LPL requires volunteers who can work with one or more adult students to help them meet their literacy goals. This usually involves foundational skills tutoring in reading, writing, listening, speaking, math and/or computers. A police check is required. Volunteers must be 20 years of age or older. The next training session (online via Zoom) is Friday, Sept. 25 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m., continuing on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Please fill out their registration form at http://www.lethlib.ca/readon or for more information, call Margaret at 403-320-3133.
TETRA SOCIETY OF NORTH AMERICA – PROMOTIONAL OUTREACH CO-ORDINATOR VOLUNTEER
Tetra Society of North America is a non-profit organization that empowers people with disabilities through volunteer built custom assistive devices that overcome obstacles to independence. They are looking for an enthusiastic, outgoing individual to help raise awareness about their organization. The successful candidate will develop a promotional strategy for the new Lethbridge Chapter. They will create promotional materials and seek out direct-to-client advertising opportunities throughout the city. LETHBRIDGE SENIOR CITIZENS ORGANIZATION – WINNERS BINGO VOLUNTEERS
Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization (LSCO) is designed to be the community focal point on aging where older persons as individuals or in groups can come together for services, activities and sociability. LSCO runs the bingo program at Winners Bingo to raise money for their organization and they are in need of volunteers to help at the bingo hall. Activities range from selling bingo cards to counting money in a smoke-free environment. Their bingo team is fabulous, but they are almost always in need of an extra helper or two. LETHBRIDGE FAMILY SERVICES – CONVERSATION CIRCLE VOLUNTEER
Lethbridge Family Services is a highly-accredited, charitable human services organization that improves the well-being and quality of life for individuals and families in Southwestern Alberta. They are looking for volunteers who would help create a more welcoming and inclusive city by volunteering as a Conversation Circle Partner and engage with newcomers to Canada. Conversation Circle Volunteers help newcomers adjust to life in Canada by practicing basic conversational English needed to participate in community life, and by socializing and sharing information about resources, community, and culture. Southern Alberta Self-Help Association (SASHA) is a non-profit community organization whose mission is to promote the independence of persons with mental illness by means of transitional and long-term housing through supportive programs and activities. SASHA’s board of directors is seeking someone to fill the role of president (and chairperson) for a 3-year term. The ideal individual would bring 5+ years of experience in a senior position on a board of directors and would be willing to provide strategic guidance and mentorship to the members of the board.
