RMTC returns this weekend

ROCKY MOUNTAIN TURF CLUB

After a very successful opening weekend for Rocky Mountain Turf Club, with near-record betting numbers, last Monday was rained out due to inclement weather. That day will be made up this Monday at 6 p.m., with a 1:15 p.m. start Saturday and Sunday for three racing days in total.

Opening weekend was a huge success for Rocky Mountain Turf Club with very high betting and a large number of people who were at the track, all adhering to the COVID protocols that were put in place.

One of the shining new stars in the training world of horse racing is Codi Blatler. Codi has worked as a groom for the past two years for the legendary Lyle Magnuson, who was the perpetual winner of the leading trainer award at R.M.T.C.

This year Magnuson decided to stay in the U.S. because of the reduced days of racing due to COVID, and Blatler decided to head out on her own. She has taken the racing season by storm so far, particularly with superstar mare, “Pretty Dark Rose,” who has turned out to be about as sure a thing for a win as one can hope for. Blatler is training six horses for her family and Eddie Esquirel from Saskatoon.

There will be a special tribute to the Rocky Mountain Dixieland Jazz Band this weekend. The band has been a mainstay at Rocky Mountain Turf Club for a number of years and will be honoured for the ongoing musicianship and class when entertaining the crowds at the track.

Once again, racing action starts at 1:15 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with a special Monday of racing starting at 6 p.m.
