As they continue their return-to-train phase of the new season, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s rugby team went one province east for its latest recruit.

On Thursday, the Horns announced the addition of Saskatchewan Provincial team member Ashley Albert.

“Ashley brings a keen attitude and it shows quickly on the field with her aggressive running and attacking skills,” said Pronghorns head coach Neil Langevin in a release.

“She comes to us after being mentored by Robin MacDowell and Kayla Mack in Saskatchewan, so we are confident she will be a strong competitor for the Horns. Her potential is high and she will likely feature in her rookie year.”

From Meadow Lake, Albert comes to Lethbridge after a strong high school career with Carpenter High School.

A three-year team captain, she scored 48 tries over five years and in 2019 she was named the best forward and MVP.

Albert was a member of both the Northern Saskatchewan and provincial teams and has played both 15s and sevens.

She plays in the forwards and will see time at both prop and hooker.

Albert will pursue a degree in agriculture.

The Pronghorns returned to training Sept. 2 and will continue training throughout the fall with the hopes of competing in the Canada West Sevens Series.

Canada West will make a decision on the series and winter sports Oct. 8.
