National Coaches Week is Sept. 19-27 and the Lethbridge Sport Council is celebrating the positive impact coaches have on athletes and the community.
LSC is celebrating the dedication, wisdom, and accomplishments of over 30 local coaches this week. These coaches represent many different sports in the community, from the grassroots level to elite sport. LSC will be sharing a few of these coach profiles on its website and social media daily through coaches week.
Coach profiles can be found on our website, and more will be added daily, at https://lethbridgesportcouncil.ca/news/coaches-week-2020.
LSC said in a new release it reached out to local athletes and asked them to tell them about their coaches. They shared heart-warming stories about why their coach is “More Than a Coach.”
Track and field athlete Aaron Hernandez talked about his coach, Jaime Thomas, who he considers not only a coach, but also a mentor, role model, support system and friend. Hernandez attributes much of his success on and off the track to his coach.
Pronghorn rugby player Jill Tataryn recalled the lasting impact coach Ric Suggitt has on not only her rugby career, but more importantly the lives of so many athletes, and because he inspired Logan Boulet to be an organ donor, their legacies live on because of the increase in organ donors.
Read more about Jaime Thomas and Ric Suggitt on the LSC website at https://lethbridgesportcouncil.ca/news/more-than-a-coach and find out the integral role a coach can play.
“Despite the obstacles sport has faced recently, coaches have continued to engage and inspire their athletes,” said Susan Eymann, LSC executive director, in the release. “We are pleased to bring to you a look at what our local coaches are up to and how in many ways they are #morethanacoach.”
