The case against a Lethbridge man charged following a collision that claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy earlier this spring continues to be adjourned while defence waits for disclosure from the police.

Lethbridge lawyer Greg White told a judge Tuesday in Lethbridge provincial court defence has been waiting five months for disclosure in relation to accident scene reconstruction, but still hasn’t received it.

Neil Martin Skjodt, 52, is charged under the Traffic Safety Act with careless driving, which allows for a maximum fine of $2,000 or six months in jail, or both, and possibly licence suspension. Skjodt was charged under the Traffic Safety Act rather than under the Criminal Code after investigating officers determined there was no criminality involved in the unfortunate incident.

At about 3:30 p.m. on April 13 police responded to a pedestrian collision between Coalbanks Gate and Aquitania Boulevard West. A large SUV travelling south on Aquitania Boulevard turned west onto Whoop-Up Drive and struck two young boys crossing in the crosswalk with their father. The 10-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries and died after being taken to the hospital.

The accused’s next court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 10.
