Mrs. Debbie Margaret Beringer of Coaldale passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the young age of 58 years- just 6 days before her 59th birthday.

Dickie Engleson
1928 – 2020
Ila Tereca Engleson known as “Dickie” by many, beloved wife of Peter Engleson, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side in Taber on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the age of 91 years following a short battle with cancer.
As a result of the restrictions regarding COVID-19, and the government’s recommendations a private funeral service will be held at Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber on Saturday, October 24, 2020. A public burial service will follow at the Taber Memorial Garden at 1:45 P.M. Please remember that only one hundred people are allowed to attend and anyone else will be required to remain in their vehicles. Dickie is survived by her loving husband Peter; daughter Merle (Blair) Jespersen of Taber and their children Kim (Blair) and Marty (Melanie) and their children Seth and Kylee; son Reg (Brenda) Engleson of Taber and their children Dallas (Michelle) and Stacey (Jonathan); daughter Debbie (Tim) Jespersen of Langford, British Columbia and their children Carla, Tyler (Mckenzie) and their children Ila, Beau and Madden, Nicole (John) and their child Harper. She is also survived by her brother Gallen “Bud” Vancleave of Taber, sister Wanda “Tootie” Engleson of Taber and sister in-law Corine Vancleave of Airdrie as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Claude and Delia Vancleave; first husband Merle Tolton; great granchild Jarrett Jespersen; brother Marlin “Joe” Vancleave; sisters Bette (Don) Steely and Coreen (Maurice) Abell; sister-in-law Doris Vancleave; brother-in-law Herb Engleson.
Dickie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She cherished spending time with all her family and friends. Dickie was always proud and supportive of her family, her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters, friends and was active in bowling and aquafit. Dickie was an excellent cook and loved baking and hosting family gatherings. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Aline Gaebel

1931 – 2020

Mrs. Aline (Belmore) Gaebel of Lethbridge, formerly of Calgary and loving wife of the late Mr. William Gaebel, passed away at Fairmont Extendicare on Monday, October 19, 2020 at the age of 89 years.

Born in Alida, Saskatchewan, Aline was the daughter of the late Claude and Irene (Cruywels) Belmore.

She is survived by her four children Brenda Ault, Calgary, AB, Franciene (Robert) Regier, Winnipeg, MB, Terry (Carolyn) Gaebel, Lethbridge, AB, Keith (Victoria) Gaebel, Phuket, Thailand; four grandchildren Robert, Shanna, Donovan and Kira; four great-grandchildren Zoe, Eli, William and Russell; sister, Lilian Popp, Regina, SK, sister-in-law Christine Belmore, Regina, SK and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Aline was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, William (Bill) Gaebel and brothers Roy, Melvin and Denis.

Cremation entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels and interment in the Queen’s Park Cemetery, Calgary, AB will be postponed to a later date.

Cecilija Kelenc

1931 – 2020

Mrs. Cecilija Kelenc, beloved wife of Matija (Mathew) Kelenc, passed away peacefully October 16, 2020 at St Therese Villa, in Lethbridge, Alberta, at the age of 89 years.

Cecilija was born in 1931, in Odranci, Slovenia. In 1958, together with her husband Matija and their two daughters, they journeyed to Canada, settling in Lethbridge. Cecilija’s first job was at a Cannery, where her and her husband where both able to work. This allowed her to work days, and her husband to work nights, ensuring that someone would be home with their 2 daughters. In 1959, she was hired as a member of the kitchen staff, at St. Michael’s Hospital. She enjoyed her job, and the many wonderful friendships she had with the kitchen and hospital staff. After her retirement, she spent much of her time gardening so she could share her abundance with her family and friends.

Cecilija loved spoiling her children with her cooking and baking, and she never missed an occasion to bring us all together so we could feast upon her “old country” recipes, and her sense of humour. She always spoke her “truth,” blessing us with many unique insights, that we will remember and cherish forever. Her most beloved memories came from the camping and fishing trips she took with her husband and grandchildren, and all the time she was able to spend with her sister Anna. She loved having her nephew Joe come over, joking with him and reminiscing about their lives, and families still living in Slovenia. Some of her most memorable get togethers were with her “Old Country” friends who were very near and dear to her heart.

In 2013, Cecilija was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. For the past 7 years she has lived at St Therese Villa, where she was blessed with the kindness, love, and wonderful care, from the Memory Care Unit staff. During these years she became very tender hearted, and even though she talked very little, she still blessed us, and her caregivers, with her wonderful sense of humour.

Thank you for the memories dear Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, and Aunt we will cherish you and our memories together – forever.

Cecilija is survived by her loving daughters Bernarda (Ron) Dickie, Dragica (Vince) De Pippo, and son Matthew (Cheryl) Kelenc. Granddaughters Vanesa (Dan) Lott, Jennifer (Barrett) Gysemans, Amanda (Kurtis) Staples-King, Vanessa (Peter) Principalli, Jennifer De Pippo, and Grandsons Ryan (Kathy) Telkamp, Travis (Traci) Dickie, and Reed McCowan, and her 9 Great Grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Cecilija you will be sadly missed by your loving family and friends.

Miss Jolene Oudshoorn

Miss Jolene Oudshoorn of Picture Butte, beloved daughter of Harry and Christina Oudshoorn, passed away tragically on Monday, October 19, 2020 at the age of 18 years.

Besides her parents, Jolene is survived by her loving brothers and sisters: Darren and Jessica Oudshoorn (Logan), Sarah and Rylan Dekok (Ainsley, Abigail and Chad), Daniel, Leanne, Michael, Braeden, Kayla; her dear boyfriend Willem Neels; Opa Barend den Hertog; Opa and Oma Harry and Ena Oudshoorn. Left to mourn her passing are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers.

Jolene was pre-deceased by her Oma Jennie den Hertog; uncles Bert den Hertog, Evert den Hertog and Jan Christiaan den Hertog.

Jolene graduated from Calvin Christian School in June 2020. She was employed as a health care aide at the Bethesda Care Home and also worked at DeVry Greenhouses in Picture Butte.

A Private Funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 23 by invite only at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Picture Butte with Reverend E.C Adams officiating. The service will be live streamed at https://www.nrcpicturebutte.ca.

It is with heavy hearts that we the family of DOLORES STANDING ALONE -“Pah-tsii-kamosaakii” announce the passing of our beloved mother at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on October 14th, 2020 at the age of 67 yrs. Dolores was born September 14th, 1953 at the old Indian Hospital on the Blood Reserve, to the late Gilbert Standing Alone Sr and Mary Ruby Standing Alone. Dolores is survived by her children Rochelle (Raymond) Standing Alone, Patti (Lee) Standing Alone, Ryan Standing Alone; Step Daughters Joyce (Donald) Rabbit, Edna Bird, Monica Black Water, 25 grandchildren, 19 greatgrandchildren. She also raised her first 2 grandchildren, whom she held close to her heart-Leland Trey (Tristan) Standing Alone and Shae (Mariah) Standing Alone and Lily Standing Alone (Fred and Dolores’s special baby) She is also survived by her sisters Theresa Standing Alone, Angela (Lawernce) B-S-H, Lorna (Merlin) Eagle Plume, Doris (Les) Standing Alone, brothers; Gilbert Standing Alone jr, Ronald (Rochelle) Cutter. Her adopted mothers Pauline White Grass, Diane Plume, also known as the “Golden Girls”, her godmother Elizabeth Red Crow. Several nieces and nephews. Dolores had numerous adopted children, too many to name, the ones she raised were Shane (Chayla) B-S-H, Daisy Rose Plume, John (Andrea) Big Throat, Tami Whiskey Jack. She was “mom” to everyone. Dolores had a lage extended family including the Standing Alones, Eagle Speakers, Hind Bulls, White Man Lefts, Shoutings, Prairie Chickens, Weasel Fats, First Riders, Across The Mountains, Medicine Cranes, Knives, Chief Calfs and many more extended families. Also numerous friends, too many to name. Dolores was true to her beliefs, both Catholic and Traditional and remained a very humble person til the end. She taught her children to be strong and believe in the power of prayer, that forgiveness always followed. Her love for everyone is what kept her going. Dolores started her education at the St.Paul’s Residential school, then went on to Cardston, Magrath and on to Drumheller AB. She was a homemaker until her children got older and then decided to further her education by doing upgrading at Red Crow Community College and getting her life skills certificate. She then went on to get her early childhood education and received her certificate. During those years, Dolores worked with her mother for a few years, taking care of seniors and the disabled. They also did custodian work in the community buildings. Dolores always opened her heart to many other children too numerous to mention, who called her mother and know in their hearts who they are. Her selfless, kind, and nurturing nature shone through when helping others. Dolores continued her traditional ways with the Blackfoot Sundance Horn Society on the Blood Reserve in 1988-1992 where she and her husband Fred Weasel Head were truly honored to be a part of the Sundance. She then took up a job in Calgary, AB where she participated in the Calgary Stampede and got the name “The Bannock Queen”. Dolores also held numerous jobs in the Day Care facilities from Calgary, AB to Standoff AB, to Cardston, AB. This position was her passion, taking care of children. She was known as “Grandma” to all the children she cared for. Because of her love for children she then became a foster parent and safe home for those who were in need of a home and pure love. Her pasttime hobbies included going to the casino, playing bingo, THAT, she enjoyed. She had numerous friends and families and a special group we called the (GOLDEN GIRLS) Theresa, Anita, Pauline White Grass, Diana Plume, and her special little sidekick that helped her carry her bingo bag in (Brekken). Dolores was such an amazing, loving person. She just knew how to ask for someone to drive her all over if need be, and never was alone, either driving with her sister Theresa, Gilbert or one of her many children. She always made her way around. Dolores (mom) was truly a pure and humble loving soul that will truly be missed. We know that GOD truly only takes the best.

Dolores was predeceased by her husband Fredrick Weasel Head 2015, her parents Gilbert Sr. Standing Alone, Mary Standing Alone (Eagle Speaker) 2014. Her loving son’s Alton & Leland Standing Alone 1991, Step-Son’s Lenny & Darcy Mistaken Chief. Nieces Joanne Standing Alone, Brittany Medicine Crane, Nephews Alroy Jr Standing Alone. Sister in-law Lorna Standing Alone (Storm), Marilyn (Charlie Moses), Loretta Weasel Head, Brother in-law David Weasel Head, Tyrone Weasel Head, Mother in-law Annie Weasel Head; In-law nieces Gina Heavy Sheilds, Kayleen Small Eyes, Nephew in-law’s Timmy Eagle Speakers, Murdis Eagle Speaker, Step-Grandson Justin Eagle Plume. A Family Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston, AB on Sunday, October 25th from 5:00 – 6:00 pm. The Wake Service will continue at Dolores Standing Alone’s residence, Blood Reserve from 7:00 p.m continuing all night. The Funeral Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Monday, October 26th at 11:00 am. Interment in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.

Wally Strelau

1933 – 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce that Wally Strelau, beloved husband of Erika, passed away on October 18, 2020, at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his family, who are comforted knowing that he is now in the presence of Jesus his Saviour.

Wally was born to a family of German descent in the town of Pisarefka, Ukraine, on December 20, 1933. In 1949, the family, without their dad, immigrated to Canada through the sponsorship of a farmer in Morris, Manitoba. After working on the farm for two years, Wally moved to Winnipeg in 1951 to begin his upholstery trade with Flexsteel Furniture. This is also where his passion for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers began and continued his whole life.

Wally continued his upholstery trade when he moved to Vancouver in 1959, where he met the love of his life, Erika. They were married in 1961 and were then blessed with two children, Glenn and Colleen. Wally and Erika were active members of Bethany Baptist Church their whole lives where they also nurtured many wonderful lifelong friendships. In 1976, Wally started his own business, Flexway Upholstery, providing custom built furniture for many designers and friends.

Wally’s love for people is what his family cherishes and remembers most. While Wally loved to be active, such as golfing regularly right up until his cancer diagnosis, it was his passion and commitment to Christ, his family and friends that left a legacy for his family. Wally adored his four grandchildren, and he was deeply loved by them. As his wife’s health continued to decline due to Alzheimer’s, Wally’s passion to visit, provide care and feed every meal to his lovely wife in resident care for the past five years was an example of his enduring love that warmed the hearts of family and friends. He always said, “I have to go and see my bride now”.

Wally is survived by his wife Erika, son Glenn Strelau (Rhoda) of Surrey, BC, daughter Colleen Martin (Dale) of Lethbridge, AB, grandchildren Kayla (Travis), Matthew (Kyle), Will, Jack, brother Willi (Elsie) and predeceased by his younger brother Walter.
