BERTE
“The Road has come to an end”
MR. BRUCE JOHN BERTE, beloved husband of Mrs. Reta Berte, of Coalhurst, AB. passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 31st, 2013 at the age of 73 years.
Bruce was the loving father of son Randy Berte (Sue) of Lethbridge, daughters Taralyn Berte (Dave) of Lethbridge and Loralie (Tate) Baker of Magrath, Alberta. He is survived by his loving grandchildren Cole Berte and Taelan Baker of Magrath, also his sisters Delores and Joyce Berte, numerous nieces and nephews as well as his faithful companion Justice. Bruce was predeceased by his sister Beverly and parents Arthur and Margaret Berte.
Born and raised in the Lethbridge area, Bruce was an avid fan of big motors, fast cars and big rigs. This love took him down the road across the USA and Canada in his black Kenworth “BJ Berte Trucking”. He was always seen with his dog Ty and in later years Justice.  Bruce dearly loved his family and was lovingly called “Bumpler” by his grandchildren.
As a young man Bruce’s love for big motors and fast cars found him doing burnouts at the Pearce airport, and drag racing at Sheppard Raceway in Calgary and Spokane. In later years his dream was to once more race with his 64 Chevy Malibu car – a dream that was never fulfilled.
Cremation to take place at Cornerstone Funeral Home, ashes to be spread at a later date.
Flowers gratefully declined. In memory of Bruce donations may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada – 3100, 246 Stewart Green SW, Calgary, Alberta, T3H 3C8 or the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta – 404 8 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 0H8.

EILEEN RUBY SOMMERFELDT
1943 ~ 2013
It is with extreme sadness that at the age of 69, after a brief battle with cancer, the family announces Eileen’s passing on Wednesday July 31, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family.
Eileen is survived by her son Monti Coates (Diane Blake), her two daughters, Renee Arnett and Tiffany (Ron) Zucchiatti; her grandchildren Courtney Gillis, Ryan Meggison (Christina Webber), Denton Coates, Halle Gouthreau and Blaire Coates; one great-grandchild and one on the way; her sisters Nellie Harley (Sid), Evelyn Beaudoin (Danny), and brother George Paull (Ruby); half sisters Marilyn Hallock (Wayne) and Dianna Jameson. She is also survived by one step-sister, two step-brothers, numerous nieces and nephews. Eileen is predeceased by her father Reginald Paull, her mother Winnie Wolf and stepfather Ordie as well as two step-brothers, two step- sisters and 2nd husband Herman Sommerfeldt.
Eileen was born in Edmonton, AB on November 25th, 1943 and raised in different farming communities around Alberta before settling in Lethbridge where she met her first husband Bryan Coates with whom she shares her three children. The greatest loves of Eileen’s life are her children. She wanted them to grow up with good, strong country values and that prompted her to move her family to Stirling, AB in 1975. Once her children were grown and the grandchildren started to come she moved to Lethbridge in 2004 to be closer to them.
Eileen had a long career in the housing industry that began at Wicks, Scamper and finally at Triple M Homes where she worked from 1989 until she retired in 2009. Her love of building and fixing did not end with her retirement, she was always renovating her house, changing her colors and you never knew what her house would look like next time you visited. Eileen loved flowers and gardening and she put as much care into her yard as she did her home. Horses, trail riding, chilling in her hot tub and camping with her girls were just a few of her favorite things. She also cherished the times out on her sons farm during harvest and holding the “nut” bucket during branding. Strong of mind and character and full of humor and wit, Eileen was always there for anyone who needed a helping hand or just a bit of shelter from a storm.
Her strength, her heart and her beautiful spirit took her on many adventures and allowed her to experience life to the FULLEST extent. Long before it was okay for women to be tough and own a tool box, Eileen had already paved that path. Her kids learned at a young age when something needed fixing, it was always call mom, she can do it.
As Eileen begins her eternal trail ride off into the Sunset, the family invites you to share in a Celebration of her life at the EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH on Hwy 4 on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Scott Currie officiating.

LEONARD DESJARLAIS
August 15, 1964 – July 31, 2013
It is with shock and profound sadness that the family of Leonard Desjarlais announce his sudden passing after a brief illness and emergency surgery.
He will be most dearly missed by his children Nicola and Randall. He is also survived by his parents John and Joanne Desjarlais, sisters Renee Spohn (Randall) and family Dante, Elizabeth and Pascal; Cindy Desjarlais (Tim Patterson) and family Zachary and Matthew Passey; and brother Denis Desjarlais, all of Lethbridge.
As family we acknowledge that he is also survived by a great many friends and co-workers that brought meaning and comfort to his life. We are grateful to all of you.
Leonard was an avid sportsman. He learned to love the outdoors from his father who took the family camping throughout the Southern Alberta wilderness. Leonard found great joy in passing on his hunting and fishing skills to his son Randall. He played football for Catholic Central through junior and senior high. After school, his competitiveness found an outlet in power lifting and golf.
While Leonard succeeded at many things, he truly excelled at being a father. All those who knew him were inspired by his absolute and unconditional commitment he had to his children. He was sustained daily by the love and respect he received in return.
The family is honoring Leonard’s wishes of not marking his passing with any formal service. In lieu of flowers we ask that you give your kids a hug – call your mom and dad and say thanks. In lieu of a ceremony, take a walk in nature. As a memorial to Leonard, find a friend, a relative or a co-worker and raise a toast to a life that was and to a memory that will live on with all of us.
Len – we miss you – may God who called you to this life preserve you in His love.
