Police charge man in Lethbridge’s first homicide of the year

Lethbridge Police have charged a man in connection with a homicide on the city’s southside on Monday.

Police responded to a residence in the 1200-block of 4 Avenue South about 1:18 a.m. on Feb. 8, 2021 after a report of someone screaming for help. They discovered the body of a deceased 65-year-old male inside the residence.

The death was initially deemed suspicious in nature and the matter was turned over to the Criminal Investigation Section. On Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary confirmed the cause of death as a homicide.

The Critical Incident Team, with the assistance of other Lethbridge Police units, arrested a 35-year-old man at a home in the 1100-block of 11 Street South Tuesday afternoon.

Jade Trotter of Lethbridge was charged with second-degree murder and break and enter, and has been remanded in custody to appear in court Friday, Feb. 12, 2021.

Police said the two men were known to each other and the accused had attended the victim’s residence.  A dispute occurred, resulting in the death of the victim, Glenn Lofthouse. A weapon was involved, which police have recovered.
