Addison making NHL debut

In a shortened National Hockey League season, a third Lethbridge Hurricanes alumnus will make his NHL debut tonight.
Defenceman Calen Addison will be in the lineup when the Minnesota Wild travel to Los Angeles to take on the Kings, looking to line up alongside veteran Ryan Suter.
He is the third former Cane to make his NHL debut this season.
Forward Dylan Cozens has played in 10 games with the Buffalo Sabres, scoring twice and adding an assist, while goaltender Stuart Skinner made his NHL debut with the Oilers Jan. 31 in an 8-5 win over the Ottawa Senators in Edmonton.
Addison, a product of Brandon, Man. who will turn 21 in April, has three assists in three games with Minnesota’s Iowa Wild farm team in the American Hockey League.
Addison was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round and 53rd overall in the 2018 NHL entry draft.
He was traded to the Wild by the Penguins on Feb. 11 of last year as part of the deal that sent Jason Zucker to Pittsburgh.
“Any hockey player growing up always wants to play in the NHL, that’s their lifelong goal,” said Addison Monday on nhl.com. “For that to be coming true and to be happening (tonight) is something special and I’m just thankful they believe in me enough to put me in the lineup and give me that chance.”
Addison spent his entire Western Hockey League career in Lethbridge after being drafted by the team second overall in the 2015 WHL bantam draft.
In 50 games last season before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the season in March, Addison had 10 goals and 52 points in 50 games with the Hurricanes.
After making his debut in Lethbridge in the 2015-16 season, the five-foot-10, 180-pound defenceman played in 252 games with the Hurricanes, scoring 41 goals and 215 points.
In 39 playoff games, Addison totalled nine goals and 30 points, including back-to-back runs to Game 6 of the Eastern Conference final in 2017 and 2018.
Addison joined Cozens on the 2020 Canadian World Junior Team that won the gold medal in the Czech Republic.
