A 26-year-old man charged with several other individuals in relation to a serious assault on the westside in September has been granted bail, but he won’t be getting out of jail right away.
Jesse Dean Davidson, who is charged with aggravated assault, disguised with intent and failure to comply with a release order, was released on those charges Wednesday in Lethbridge provincial court on $500 bail.
He was also ordered to live with his mother in Lethbridge, obey a daily curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., not consume intoxicating substances, not possess any weapons, and avoid contact with five people, who are also charged in relation to the assault.
Police were called to an early-morning disturbance Sept. 25 at a trailer park in the 2700 block of Westside Drive West. When police arrived at the residence, they found a 40-year- old male suffering from serious and life-threatening injuries.
The investigation revealed the incident was targeted, and the victim and suspects were known to each other.
Although Davidson was granted bail, he will remain in custody while he serves an unrelated sentence.
Davidson was sentenced last month to 90 days in jail – minus some credit for pre-trial custody – after pleading guilty to single counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
Court was told a motor vehicle had been stolen from a residence last April, but police found it only a few minutes later and arrested the two occupants after a brief foot chase.
Davidson, who was one of the occupants, claimed he wasn’t involved in the theft but he knew the vehicle had been stolen.
Barely a week later a resident saw two people emptying a parked vehicle of its contents.
The witness was suspicious and photographed Davidson as he walked away from the car, which had been stolen.
The accused’s next court appearance is set for March 17.
