The Helen Schuler Nature Centre is putting out a call to young artists for contributions to an upcoming exhibition.
The Nature Youth Art Exhibition will be staged this fall and submissions by artists 18 and younger will be accepted until Sept. 25.
Curtis Goodman, resource development co-ordinator at the centre, said Tuesday categories include art, music, photography, videography and creative writing, with the latter limited to submissions of 100 words or less.
The exhibition is being staged by the centre in conjunction with the Lethbridge East Rotary Club and the Friends of the Helen Schuler Nature Centre Society.
The centre has about 75 feet of linear space for the indoor exhibition, said Goodman, but if the response is overwhelming, an outdoor component might be added.
And he said the centre is hoping for the response to be overwhelming.
“We cast the net wide to get as many submissions as possible,” he said.
The exhibition provides an opportunity for emerging artists to get their art on display, he said.
Goodman said he has seen an “identity shift” in youth who have had the opportunity for their work to go on public display in the annual exhibition.
“He said the exhibition is empowering for youth and it gets them outdoors to focus on elements in nature.
A press release from the centre says “artists are encouraged to find their muse in nature then create something that would inspire others to spend more time outside.”
