Hometown boy Tetachuk headed to Moose Jaw

By Dale Woodard on June 12, 2021.

A local goaltender is on the move.

On Thursday, the Lethbridge Hurricanes announced they had traded Lethbridge’s Carl Tetachuk to the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for a conditional seventh round draft pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

The 2001-born puck stopper who turned 21 this year was originally undrafted in the Western Hockey League draft but was listed and signed by the Hurricanes in 2018.

Tetachuk appeared in 95 career games with the Hurricanes over three seasons, posting a regular season record of 50-28-5-6 with a 3.06 goals against average and a .901 save percentage while posting five shutouts.

In 2018-19, the six-foot, 180-pound goaltender set a career-high with a 24-9-1-1 record and a .909 save percentage, while setting career-highs in shutouts with three and a goals-against average of 2.82 in 2019-20.

Tetachuk also appeared in seven post-season games with the Hurricanes in 2019, notching a 3-3-0 record with a 3.52 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage.

He finishes his Hurricanes career 10th all-time in games played by a goaltender (95) while finishing sixth in franchise victories with 50.

Tetachuk is also tied for fifth in franchise shutouts with five.

“Carl was a great Hurricane and represented the organization with nothing but class both on and off the ice,” said Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt in a release. “We wish Carl nothing but the best moving forward and are excited that he will have an opportunity in Moose Jaw to play as an overage. We thank him for all of his contributions over the last three seasons.”

With the trade, the Hurricanes currently have three projected overage players for the 2021-2022 season, forwards Logan Barlage and Justin Hall and defenseman Alex Cotton.

Tetachuk reached out on Twitter Thursday.

“I’d like to thank to the whole hurricanes organization and fans for the support and everything they have done for me, as well as family and friends who have made my last 3 years in Lethbridge possible.”
