Bulls double the Dawgs Red to complete road trip

After an extended road trip, the Lethbridge Bulls are coming home on a winning note.

The Bulls downed the Okotoks Dawgs Red 12-6 in Western Canadian Baseball League play Tuesday night in Okotoks.

With the win, the Bulls wrap up an eight-game road swing in which they lost their first three games, but finished the trip winning four of their last five to improve to 11-9 on the season.

That puts the Bulls into a three-way tie for first in the WCBL heading into the second half of the season with the Edmonton Prospects (11-9) and the Okotoks Dawgs Black (11-9), who visit Spitz Stadium tonight at 7:05 p.m.

On Tuesday, a six-run second inning and four more in the ninth was enough to secure the win for the Bulls as starter Jake Anderson went seven innings to earn the win.

Meanwhile, Bulls centre fielder Nick Gravel went yard for his second home run of the season, while Ty Wevers added another round-tripper in the winning cause.

Wevers batted 2-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI, while Bulls second baseman Jack Ray hit 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Gravel hit 2-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI and shortstop Mike Fitzsimmons was 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Fitzsimmons now has 17 RBI on the season.

Brad Goodwin and Justin Adamoski each had two RBI Tuesday night.

Anderson allowed six runs over his seven innings of work on eight hits. He walked six and struck out five to earn the win.

Ardan Berg finished the last two innings, allowing one hit and striking out four.

Zac Robinson took the loss for the Dawgs Red, going two innings and giving up six runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out two.

The Bulls return home for three straight games starting tonight with the league-leading Dawgs Black at 7:05 p.m.

The Dawgs Red come to town for a pair of rematches Thursday and Friday night.

The Bulls are back in Okotoks Saturday and Sunday against the Dawgs Red and Black, respectively.
