Gulls rally late to down the Bulls in Sylvan Lake

This time, some late runs worked against the Lethbridge Bulls.

The Bulls were defeated 5-3 by the Sylvan Lake Gulls in Western Canadian Baseball League play Thursday night in Sylvan Lake.

After Lethbridge enjoyed some late offence at home Wednesday night against the Okotoks Dawgs Red that earned them a 12-4 win, the Gulls plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to snap a 3-3 tie.

The loss puts the Bulls at 14-13 on the season, but still leaves them in second place in the WCBL and three games behind the Okotoks Dawgs Black (17-10).

The Bulls got off to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Mike Fitzsimmons walked to lead off and then scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Noah Or.

Carlin Dick then scored on a wild pitch.

The Gulls scored once in the fourth inning and twice more in the fifth to go up 3-2, but Lethbridge pulled even in their half of the sixth when Brad Goodwin scored on a Torrin Vaselenak sacrifice fly.

The Gulls outhit the Bulls 8-4.

Bulls catcher Ty Wevers went 2-for-4.

Bulls reliever Matthew Kohle took the loss for Lethbridge, going one and two-thirds innings and allowing two runs on one hit and striking out two.

The Bulls and Gulls are back at it tonight in the rematch in Sylvan Lake at 7:05 p.m.

After tonight’s game the Bulls return home for three days in as many days over the long weekend.

It starts Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Spitz Stadium against the Gulls as the Bulls host Little League Day.

Little League players wearing their jersey or hat get free admission and a free hot dog.

The Bulls and Gulls return to Spitz Stadium Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. for the Pink In The Park promotion.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game to show support for breast cancer research.

Limited edition shirts will also be up for auction.

The Dawgs Black pay a visit Heritage Monday at 3:05 p.m.

Fans can come early and enjoy an El Salvadorian dance performance and can also stay after the game for some Columbian music.
