The first week of the Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League season was served up.
On the varsity girls side Tuesday, the Cardston Cougars and Catholic Central High School Cougars battled to five sets before Cardston posted the win (23-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-20, 16-14).
In other girls varsity play Tuesday, the Raymond Comets prevailed 3-1 (20-25, 25-14, 29-27, 25-21) over the LCI Clippers.
Four 3-0 wins were also recorded as the Chinook Coyotes got past the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels (25-23, 25-14, 25-15), the Winston Churchill High School Griffins blanked the Immanuel Christian Eagles (25-16, 25-20, 25-23), Taber St. Mary’s beat the Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride (25-23, 25-15, 25-21) and the Magrath Pandas downed the Picture Butte Sugar Queens (25-11, 25-14, 25-4).
In girls junior varsity play, Magrath edged Picture Butte 2-1 (23-25, 25-17, 15-5) and Catholic Central shut out Cardston 2-0 (25-20, 25-14).
Chinook beat W.R. Myers 2-0 (25-9, 25-18) and the Comets got past the Clippers 2-0 (25-15, 25-5).
Immanuel Christian also earned a 2-0 win with 25-17 and 25-20 set wins over Winston Churchill.
In boys varsity play Wednesday, Cardston downed Winston Churchill 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 17-25, 25-20), while the Pride also earned a 3-1 win (25-21, 13-25, 25-16, 25-23) win over LCI.
In other Wednesday action, the Chinook Coyotes beat Medicine Hat 3-1 (17-25, 25-11, 25-21, 25-16), the Magrath Zeniths got past Immanuel Christian 3-1 (25-14, 25-15, 21-25, 25-14) and Catholic Central blanked the Picture Butte Sugar Kings 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-23).
In junior boys action Picture Butte downed Catholic Central in three sets (25-23, 17-25, 15-10), while Cardston beat Winston Churchill 2-0 (25-14, 25-13).
Medicine Hat blanked the Coyotes 2-0 (25-13, 25-22).
Magrath also earned a 2-0 win (25-11, 25-14) over Immanuel Christian.
In Southern Alberta High School Football League play Friday night, the LCI Rams defeated the Catholic Central Cougars 57-7 at the University of Lethbridge Stadium.
In other football action, the Chinook Coyotes downed the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels 24-12 in Taber.
