The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s and women’s soccer teams got a split decision to start the Alberta College Athletic Conference season Friday.
The Kodiaks women’s blanked the Red Deer Queens 4-0 in Red Deer, but the Kodiaks men were unable to make it a clean sweep for the visitors, falling 5-1 to the Red Deer Kings.
In the women’s game, Kodiaks goaltender Cailey Lister stopped all 12 shots she faced as Olivia DePasquale, Krista Van and Kylie Bolton scored in the first half for a healthy 3-0 lead.
Gillian McCrimmon added a second half goal for the Kodiaks.
DePasquale and McCrimmon each had three shots on goal.
In the men’s game, Kodiak Easton Beaulieu provided the lone Lethbridge goal in the 60th minute in a 5-1 loss.
The Kings opened up a 3-0 lead after the first half and moved up 4-0 early in the second half. They added one more in the 74th minute to round out the scoring.
Kodiak goaltender Ethan Demers faced 22 shots, stopping 17 as Red Deer outshot Lethbridge 22-8.
The Kodiaks return home Sunday when the Olds Broncos come to town.
The women are up first at 2 p.m. at the Servus Sports Centre with the men to follow at 4 p.m.
