The Lethbridge Hurricanes got back on the winning track in Western Hockey League preseason play Friday night.
Overage forward Justin Hall scored twice for the Canes with his second standing up as the game-winner as Lethbridge edged the Red Deer Rebels 4-3 at the Enmax Centre.
The win improves the Hurricanes to 2-1 in exhibition play following a 4-3 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers last Saturday in Medicine Hat.
The teams swapped a pair of goals in the first period as Hall opened the scoring 4:05 into the game.
Kai Uchacz and Arjun Bawa briefly gave Red Deer the lead late in the first, but Hurricanes Euro pick Peter Repcik knotted the score at 2-2 after the first with his first of the preseason and first as a Hurricane with 24 seconds left in the first
Lethbridge’s Alex Thacker and Hall scored the lone second period goals before Red Deer’s Carter Anderson made it close with his second of the preseason 3:52 into the third.
The hosts shut the door the rest of the way as recently-signed goaltender Harrison Meneghin got the start, playing 31:18 and stopping 13 of 15 shots.
He left with the score tied 2-2 as Jared Picklyk played the final 28:42, kicking out 16 of 17 shots.
Chase Coward got the start for Red Deer, stopping 18 of 22 shots.
The teams are back at it in the rematch tonight in Red Deer. Game time is 7 p.m.
