Pronghorns women’s rugby and men’s soccer handed road losses

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s rugby team and men’s soccer team were winless on the road in Friday afternoon Canada West play.
The Horns rugby team was topped 12-6 by the Calgary Dinos in Calgary, while the men’s soccer team was shut out 4-0 by the Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon.
With the loss, the Pronghorns rugby team is now 1-1, while the Dinos improve to 2-0.
After a scoreless first half, the Dinos snapped the scoreless tie with a try by Taylor Price.
Pronghorns veteran Caitlin Sears responded with a converted penalty goal at the 60th minute from 22-yards out and followed that score up with second converted a penalty goal from 40-yards just three minutes later to give Lethbridge a 6-5 advantage.
But with time winding down, Calgary’s Taejah Thompson scored the game-winning try in the 70th minutes to make it 12-6.
The Pronghorns remain on the road when they head to Edmonton to take on the Pandas in the second installment of the Suggitt Cup Oct. 2.
They’re back home Oct. 8 for a rematch with the Dinos at the University of Lethbridge.
Game time is 5 p.m.
In Saskatoon, the Pronghorns gave up two goals in both halves as the Huskies won in their season opener.
Saskatchewan held the Horns to one shot and sent 11 the Pronghorns way.
Lethbridge goaltender Armaan Thawer played 7:20 of Friday’s game, giving up one goal and Nolan French played a little over 82 minutes, stopping six of nine shots.
The teams wrap up the weekend tonight at 7 p.m.
The Horns return home Oct. 2 to host the Calgary Dinos.
