Coyle and Cline win Pronghorns Athletes of the Week honours

By Lethbridge Herald on September 29, 2021.

Men’s soccer and women’s rugby took the spotlight as the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns named its Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week.

Earning the Male Athlete of the Week honour is Alasdair Coyle of the Pronghorns men’s soccer team, while Sara Cline of the women’s rugby team gets the nod as the Female Athlete of the Week.

The Pronghorns men’s soccer team was in Saskatoon to face the Saskatchewan Huskies in Canada West action last weekend and while Lethbridge went 0-2, Coyle had a strong attacking presence in both games.

The third-year midfielder led the Horns with six shot attempts, four of them on goal.

The losses put the Pronghorns at 0-3 as the team gets ready for a home-and-home series with the Calgary Dinos this weekend.

The first game goes Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at the University of Lethbridge before the rematch heads to Calgary Sunday, also at 2:15 p.m.

The Pronghorns women’s team (0-4) also play the Dinos this weekend, at noon Saturday at the U of L and Sunday in Calgary at noon.

The Horns women’s rugby team was also on the road last weekend as they dropped a close 12-6 decision to the Calgary Dinos Friday in Calgary.

However, Cline, a fifth-year forward, was solid on both sides of the ball in the loss, with strong runs on offense and hard nose tackling on the defensive side of the ball.

The loss puts the Pronghorns at 1-1 as the team heads to Edmonton to face the Alberta Pandas in round two of the Suggitt Cup Saturday at 1 p.m.
