For the second straight game the Lethbridge Hurricanes have been shut out.
The Canes were blanked 7-0 by the Edmonton Oil Kings in Western Hockey League action Tuesday night in Edmonton.
The Hurricanes were beaten by the same result Saturday night at the Enmax Centre, that night by the Winnipeg Ice and now fall to 5-5-0-0 on the season.
The Oil Kings improve to 8-2-1-1 and remain atop the Central Division, one point up on the 8-4-1-0 Red Deer Rebels.
It was also the second night in a row Hurricanes goaltender Bryan Thomson was pulled in the second period as backup Jared Picklyk came on in relief.
The Oil Kings went to work early Tuesday night and Simon Kubicek got it going with his third and fourth goals of the season for a 2-0 lead by the seven minute mark.
Jakub Demek and Carson Latimer handed Edmonton a 4-0 lead by the first intermission.
It didn’t take the Oil Kings long to get rolling in the second period when Dylan Guenther made it 5-0 43 seconds into the second.
Josh Williams ended Thomson’s night a little under five minutes later with his fifth of the season and a 6-0 lead.
Kobe Verbicky rounded out the scoring with 3:34 left in the second with his first career WHL goal. Lethbridge product John Szabo drew an assist on the goal. He now has a goal and two points in 12 games.
Guenther and Williams each added an assist for a two-point night.
Luke Prokop and Carter Souch each added two helpers.
The Oil Kings outshot the Hurricanes 36-28.
Oil Kings goaltender Sebastian Cossa kicked out all 28 shots he faced.
Thomson stopped 17 of 23 shots and Picklyk turned aside 12 of 13.
The Oil Kings power play was 1-for-5. The Canes were 0-for-3.
The Hurricanes return home Friday night when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.
The next day the Hurricanes take off for a five-game swing through Saskatchewan and Manitoba, starting Saturday night in Swift Current against the Broncos.
The Canes are back at the Enmax Centre Nov. 19 when the Medicine Hat Tigers visit.
