Warriors top the Hurricanes

The Lethbridge Hurricanes broke the goose egg, but not the losing skid.

The Canes were downed 4-1 by the Moose Jaw Warriors in Western Hockey League play Friday night at the Enmax Centre.

Coming off back-to-back 7-0 shutout losses to the Winnipeg Ice and Edmonton Oil Kings, the Hurricanes were able to snap their scoreless slump when Noah Boyko scored in the second period to cut the Warriors lead to 2-1, but that wound up the only snipe of the night for the hosts as the Warriors added two more to hit the road with the win as Jagger Firkus scored the hat trick for Moose Jaw.

Making his return to Lethbridge, hometown product and former Hurricanes goaltender Carl Tetachuk stopped 29 of 30 shots for the win that improves his record to 5-4-0-0.

With the loss the Hurricanes fall to 5-6-0-0, while the Warriors improve to 5-7-0-0.

Firkus netted the first two Warriors goals for a 2-0 lead early in the second before the Hurricanes power play clicked and Boyko scored his fifth of the season 11:35 into the second.

Firkus completed his hat trick bid 6:49 into the third before Eric Alarie added Moose Jaw’s third power play goal of the game with 6:31 left.

The Hurricanes outshot the Warriors 30-29. Lethbridge’s power play was 1-for-5, while Moose Jaw was 3-for-7 with the man advantage.

The Hurricanes start a five-game road swing tonight in Swift Current against the Broncos.

They return home Nov. 19 when the Medicine Hat Tigers come to town.

Friday’s announced attendance was 3,086.

NOTES: Friday’s game was also Military Appreciation Night with Remembrance Day on Wednesday. The pregame ceremony featured a marching of the colours, a video presentation on the scoreboard and a playing of the last post followed by the national anthem.
