Hurricanes acquire overage defenceman

By Lethbridge Herald on November 10, 2021.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes filled their overage situation with a trade Tuesday.

The Hurricanes acquired 2001-born defenseman Kade Nolan from the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for a fourth round draft pick in 2023.

Nolan, 20, was selected by the Winterhawks in the fourth round and 82nd overall in the 2016 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft.

On Friday, the Canes traded overage defenceman Alex Cotton to the Vancouver Giants in exchange for 2005-born defenceman Hunter McInnes along with a third (’22), fourth (’23), fifth (’22) and sixth (’22) round draft picks.

Nolan hails from Rouleau, Sask. and has played 10 games this season, posting one assist.

In his four-year WHL career, all with Portland, the six-foot-one, 181-pound defenceman has played 181 games, scoring five goals and 25 points with a plus-27 rating.

The left-shot blue-liner joins Logan Barlage and Justin Hall as the Canes three overage players and is expected to join the Hurricanes on their East Division road trip.

The 5-7-0-0 Hurricanes look to snap a four-game losing streak tonight when they head to Winnipeg to tangle with the Canadian Hockey League number-one ranked Ice at 6 p.m. local time.

The Hurricanes are back home Nov. 19 when the Medicine Hat Tigers visit the Enmax Centre at 7 p.m.
