ARISMAN

STEPHEN “STEVE” ARISMAN, beloved husband of the late of Eria Arisman of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at Fairmont Extendicare, on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at the age of 89 years.

Steve is survived by his children: Gayle (Leo) Durand of Lethbridge, Terri (Wayne) Smith of Lethbridge, and Rob Arisman (Barb Linsley) of Dawson Creek; grandchildren Jessica (Ryan) Durand-Kaustinen of Lethbridge, Chelsey Durand of Winnipeg, Ryan Smith (Rio Pisony) of Calgary, and Alyssa and Ryan Linsley of Dawson Creek; and great-grandchildren Bransen and Brennan Kaustinen of Lethbridge.

Steve was predeceased by his parents Barbara and Peter Arisman, brother Joe Arisman, and sisters, Francis McKintosh, and May Bolokoski.

Steve made an incredible impact on Lethbridge sports. As a young man, he excelled in hockey and later in life as a builder. He started his playing career in 1948 by winning the Western Canada Juvenile Hockey Championship with the Lethbridge Native Sons juvenile team. His success led him to the Native Sons junior team and the Western Canada Memorial Cup Playoffs in 1953. Steve went on to join the Great Falls Americans and in 1955 won the American Hockey Championship in New York.

Steve took a step back from playing to start a family and worked the next 35 years for the City of Lethbridge. He continued to be actively involved in our minor sports community, coaching the Lethbridge Sugar Kings junior team and the University of Lethbridge’s first hockey team, the “Chinooks”. He also managed, coached, umpired, and refereed many minor sport teams. Those who grew up in the 60s and 70s in Lethbridge likely met Steve in a rink or on a ball diamond!

Steve’s other volunteer efforts included being a founding member and Past President of the Lethbridge Old Timers Hockey Association. In the 1980s, Steve played an instrumental role in bringing junior hockey back to Lethbridge, serving 8 years with the Lethbridge Hurricanes as a board member, president and finally League Governor. In 2002 Steve was recognized for all his hard work and involvement in the athletic community by being inducted into the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame.

Steve also found time to volunteer at the Lethbridge Senior’s Centre as the President of the Carpentry Club. In their quiet time, he and Eira would spend hours tending to their beautiful yard and entertaining grandchildren.

It’s hard to sum up the contributions and the impact Steve made on the lives of so many. We know the entire Lethbridge community will miss him.

A Private Family Funeral Mass will be held. Steve will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery.

Ted Brantner

1938 – 2021

  Teddy Brantner, beloved husband of Donna Brantner of Taber, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 27, 2021 at the age of 83 years.

  A private burial service will be held at the Taber Memorial Garden.

  Ted is survived by his loving wife and wonderful caregiver Donna; children Deb Fritz (Daina Achorn) of Red Deer and Todd (Heather) Brantner of Taber; by three grandchildren who adored him Cori

(Britneigh) Fritz (their children Stevie and River), Peyton (Ashleigh) Brantner (their child Paycee), and Keegan Brantner. He is also survived by his sister Joanne (Barry) Lorencz.

  He was predeceased by his grandson Cole Fritz; parents Chris and Elna Brantner; brothers Charles (Carol) Brantner, Jerry (Judy) Brantner; brother-in-law Dennis Hamling; in-laws Howard and Mary Hamling.

  Teddy was born November 21, 1938 in Lethbridge and grew up on the family farm in the Wrentham area. He was the second youngest of six children and there are many stories of the Brantner boys in the community. Ted lived most of his life in Wrentham and was an active community member from president of the Warner Hockey Association to curling in local bonspiels.

  Ted married Donna Hamling on July 14, 1962 and they settled in the Wrentham area where they farmed and raised their two children Debbie and Todd. Ted and Donna moved from the farm in 2009 to Taber where they lived until his passing.

  Ted was a larger than life person and was well known for his mischievous smile and jokes. He loved to laugh and tease all who met and knew him. He had many passions but horses were a very large part of his life. Ted loved rodeo and spent many years traveling down the road with his best friend, the love of his life, Donna. He was the president of the Southern Circuit for a time and won the SARRC bronze in 1983 for calf roping. Ted was often found at the arena roping calves and chasing steers for Todd. Donna and Ted both enjoyed the rodeo circuit and continued to rodeo in the old-timers until 2006. Eventually they took up golf and headed to Arizona for the winters where they enjoyed great times with their friends. In the summer Ted could be found at the Indian Hills campground or golf course where he enjoyed many campfires and golf games. Ted and Donna enjoyed some great trips and a favorite was to his heritage country, Switzerland.

  Ted loved his family and spent his time following his children and grandchildren to rodeos, hockey, archery, motocross, basketball, rugby and golf events. He was everyone’s biggest fan and always stressed the importance of hard work and practice. Ted took them camping, fishing and of course horseback riding. There were many tricks played on the kids and grandkids as well! You never knew what Ted was up to but he was up to something!

GLEB

We sorrowfully announce the death of BORYS GLEB, beloved husband of Albina Gleb. Borys passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, 2021 during a lengthy hospital stay at the age of 96 years.

MACKENZIE

MORGAN EDWIN “TED” MACKENZIE passed away peacefully at Cardston, AB. December 29, 2021, at the age of 89 years surrounded by family.

Ted was born in Cardston, AB. the oldest child of Roderick Mackenzie and Mabel Mary Strate Mackenzie and was predeceased by his parents, his brother Rodney, and a great granddaughter Hope Lister.

Ted is survived by his wife Reva Pilling Mackenzie of 67 years, his children, Carol [Ray] Lister; Ed [Diana ]; Randy [Karen]; 10 grandchildren & their spouses; 26 great grandchildren. Also siblings, Leota [Butch] Sloan; Mark [Edna]; Don [Linda]; Kenny [Rebecca].

Ted was raised in Mountain View and Caldwell, AB. where he enjoyed ranching all his life. Ted, along with his brothers & father, formed Mackenzie Brothers Red Angus and brought the first Red Angus cattle herd into Canada. He loved his family & sports, especially golf & basketball, and in later years, Bocci Ball where his team won many gold medals in Alberta Seniors Games. He also enjoyed fishing, especially his trips to Belly River Lakes, with his family & friends. Nearly 6 years ago, he & Reva moved to Lee Crest Assisted living in Cardston. Ted was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many callings. He & Reva enjoyed their service in the Cardston Temple for many years.

The Funeral service will be held Monday, January 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mountain View, Alberta. Friends may meet the family from 10:00 to 10:45 prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.

Dorothy Masson

1928 – 2021

DOROTHY MAY MASSON, beloved wife of the late Edwin Masson of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, on Tuesday December 28, 2021, at the age of 93.

Dorothy was the daughter of Leonard Roy and Florence May Binning. She had one brother, the late William “Bill” Binning of Lethbridge. Dorothy was pre- deceased by her two children, Ray Patterson, and Brenda Patterson – both of Lethbridge.

She is survived by her two dear granddaughters Rhonda (Ted) Jackson and Tammy Pelletier, along with three great grandchildren Ayden, Breanne, and Emma.

A private family service will be held. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Tracy Van Ryn

1992 – 2021

Ms. Tracy Van Ryn of Lethbridge, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at the age of 29 years.

Tracy loved children, loved animals and she had great compassion for the less fortunate. She was such a bright and beautiful soul. Her last act on earth was to become an organ donor.

Addictions made her last years very difficult, and we find comfort that she is now at peace.

Tracy leaves to mourn, her parents John and Charlotte; daughter Miley Mae Hope; brother Jeffrey; sister Cindy (Chris), their sons Braden (Jordyn) and Justin; brother Jason, and his son Michael (Melodie). Special cousin Haley; grandma Mabel, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A public Viewing will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Monday, January 3, 2022, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
