The Casey Scheidegger rink is off to a 3-0 start at the Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Scheidegger and her Lethbridge Curling Club rink of third Cary-Anne McTaggart, second Jessie Haughian and lead Kristie Moore stole points in the ninth and 10th ends to defeat Edmonton’s Melissa Pierce 7-4 in the second day of Scotties action Tuesday in Grande Prairie.
That vaults the locals into a three-way tie with Edmonton’s Laura Walker and Kelsey Rocque heading into Day 3 today.
Scheidegger plays Edmonton’s Selena Sturmay at 9 a.m. today before taking on defending champion Walker in the 2 p.m. draw.
Walker’s rink also has a southern Alberta connection with Taylor McDonald as the team’s second.
On Tuesday afternoon, Scheidegger stole a point in four ends enroute to the victory.
Pierce opened up a 1-0 lead after the first end before Scheidegger got one back in the second and stole in the third and fourth ends for a 3-1 lead.
Pierce scored a pair in the fifth end to tie it up 3-3 at the halfway point.
The teams swapped a point each in the sixth, seventh and eighth ends as Scheidegger took a 5-4 lead before stealing one in the ninth and 10th ends to seal the win.
On the men’s side, the teams were heading into the evening draw at press time.
