BAKER

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Les Baker on Sunday February 13, 2022 at the age of 71. Les was born on January 21, 1951 to Clare and Gloria Baker. He was survived by his wife Judi Baker and his children Shiloh, Seth (Dianne), and Jenessa. Les adored his grandsons Keaton, Jaxon, Tanner, Lex, Nate, Luke, and Scott.

Les grew up in British Columbia with a loving and close-knit family. He had a beautiful musical talent, especially with the trumpet. He was asked to join a band with Herb Bishop and fell in love with Judi, Herb’s daughter. Les started going to church with Judi, was baptized and married Judi in 1977. The family decided to move to Alberta in 1984, where Les worked with the Bishop Family business in oil manufacturing and sales. Les loved fishing. Each time he was told he was having another grandson, he’d say, “I am going to need a bigger fishing boat!” He loved the outdoors and was a Master Scout, tennis player, and football enthusiast. Les leaves a big hole in many hearts and will be missed and remembered by many.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Copperwood Chapel, 9 Keystone Terrace West, Lethbridge. Interment will follow at Temple Hill Cemetery. For those who wish, live streaming will be available by visiting http://www.generationsfh.ca and scrolling to the bottom of Les’ obituary.

MAY

Darryl Glenn May passed away at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Thursday February 10, 2022 at the age of 74 years.

Darryl’s life was marked by many things. When a person looks over and remembers moments with him there are three trademarks of his character that are most prominent: love, devotion, and enduring to the end.

Darryl had a deep and abiding love for his dear wife, Peggy May; his four children, Matthew (Megan) May, Laura (Allen) Nelson, Erin (Trevor) Wallace, and Katie (Matt) Fenske, and his 17 grandchildren. He shared his love in many ways. It was seen in the way he smiled, the opportunities he took to teach his children new things, the commitment he had to the gospel, and the passion he had for the many sports he played and organized over the years. He leaves no doubt in the minds of those who knew him that his love ran deep for his family, his church, and the game of golf, which he shared with his son Matthew.

Darryl’s devotion was evident in so many things. He quietly lived his life working long, hard hours, showing his devotion in providing for his wife and family. He spent so much of his extra time sharing his fondness of sports with others as he organized Raymond Stake sporting events, coached community soccer, and spent countless hours on the golf course with friends. He had an abiding passion for bowling, the New York Yankees, softball, biking, baseball caps, and outdoor adventures with his kids. Darryl was an avid reader and devoted much of this life to learning new things. He also enjoyed sharing what he learned with others. Darryl was often found reading books about sport legends, biographies of church leaders, and adventure novels. His devotion to keeping his mind active was evident in the way he conducted his life around learning. Darryl was also deeply devoted to his faith and was a great example to his wife, children, and grandchildren of following Jesus Christ, and the prophet. He served an honourable mission in the eastern United States and gained his Eagle Scout award while in his youth. A person never had to wonder what Darryl’s beliefs were, as he wore his testimony on his sleeve and was bold in sharing it with others. He taught his children at very young ages the importance of making good choices, being kind, respecting others, and doing their best.

Darryl endured to the end of his life with a quiet, thoughtful, stubborn, and stalwart demeanor. He didn’t quit when life was difficult, he showed faith in every step he took, and he stood as an ever-steady reminder of a man who looked beyond himself in service for his family, his church, and his community. He will be dearly missed by many, especially his wife, children, grandchildren, and his sister, Becky.

Darryl was predeceased by his mother, Leona Robertson May of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and his father, Glenn Clifton May of Billings, Montana.

For those who wish, friends may meet with the family from 9:30 to 10:00 am on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Knight Street Chapel, 260 E 200 N, Raymond, Alberta. A private Funeral Service will follow with interment in the Magrath Cemetery.

Live streaming will be available by visiting http://www.generationsfh.ca and scrolling to the bottom of Darryl’s obituary.
