Kodiaks volleyball season ends on the road in ACAC playoffs

By Dale Woodard - Lethbridge Herald on March 10, 2022.

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s and women’s volleyball team’s seasons have come to a close.
The Kodiaks headed into their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference post season last weekend, playing under a new format with teams needing to win two single-elimination games to qualify for the conference’s final four March 11-12.
While the Kodiaks women were able to make it to the second game of the weekend, they ultimately fell to the undefeated and second-ranked Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Red Deer Polytechnic Queens 3-1 Sunday afternoon in Red Deer.
The Kodiaks earned the right to play another day thanks to a 3-1 win over the Trojans Friday night at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
The Kodiaks men were defeated in their first game, dropping a 3-1 decision to the SAIT Trojans Friday night in Calgary.
On Sunday in Red Deer, the Kodiaks women fell behind 2-0 to the Queens, but forced a fourth set after a 25-23 win in the third set.
However, Red Deer closed it out with another close 25-23 set win to advance to the ACAC final four this weekend.
In Sunday’s game in Red Deer, Jamie Brown had eight kills and Aideena Wickstrom and Claire Armstrong added seven and six, respectively. Brown also had four service aces.
Mack Lewicki had six digs and Alyssa Pavka and Brown added five each.
In Friday’s home win over the Trojans, the Kodiaks posted 25-16 and 25-18 wins in the first two sets, but dropped the third set 25-22 to SAIT.
But the home side regrouped to take the fourth set 25-20.
Brown led the way with 20 kills and 15 digs, while Lewicki added six kills and 15 digs and six service aces.
Pavka chipped in with 16 digs in the win.
The Kodiaks went 8-8 in the regular season to finish fourth in the ACAC South and make the postseason for the first time since 2018.
Red Deer hosts the Final Four this weekend and will be joined by the Briercrest Clippers representing the South, while the Kings University Eagles and Keyano College Huskies represent the North.
On the men’s side, the Kodiaks won the first set 25-21, but the Trojans answered back with 25-13, 29-27 and 25-14 set wins to advance.
Nolan Moes paced the Kodiaks with 10 kills and 13 digs, while Adam Revet stepped up with six kills.
Malcolm Fisher had 15 digs and Jeremiah Bohnert put up two blocked shots.
The Kodiaks were 9-7 in the regular season to place fifth in the South, two back of the 10-6 Trojans.
In the South, the Clippers and Red Deer Polytechnic Kings advance to the Final Four at NAIT in Edmonton this week, while the North will be represented by the Eagles and the NAIT Ooks.
