Relaxation and fun the goal of university ArtLabs

University of Lethbridge Art Gallery hosted an ArtLab arts and crafts day on Saturday at the UHall Atrium.
The event gives the opportunity for university students and community members to come out and enjoy in-person arts, crafts and snacks.
“It’s important right now to let people just relax and have fun-especially with all the stressful stuff that is going on-and creating art can be really good for your mental health,” said Kirsten Meiszinger, program coordinator at the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery.
“(And) learning to regulate emotions and processing through creative arts is very beneficial.”
She added, “We have painting and drawing and we’re also making pinback buttons.”
Saturday’s ArtLab acted as a fundraiser where the proceeds from the button making went to the ULETH food bank.
“We’ve been donating to them for at least the last six years,” she said, on donating to the food bank.
“Once a year we do button making and give all the proceeds to the food bank. Usually we get around $200 to $300 for them. So that’s exciting.”
ArtLabs have been occurring once a month throughout the school year.
The next ArtLabs will be on April 9 with collages, May 14 with a nature theme and June 18 will wrap the program up for this year with DIY Books.
ArtLab will be from 11 a.m-4 p.m. in the UHall Atrium.
