Trail date scheduled for 2020 homicide

A 38-year-old Piikani man accused of killing a teenager nearly two years ago, will stand trial for murder, but not until next year.
Dustin Big Bull, who faces single counts of second-degree murder and causing an indignity to human remains, pleaded not guilty to both charges Monday in Lethbridge Court of Queen’s Bench. The accused previously elected to be tried by a judge and jury, and he is set to stand trial Feb. 21 to March 17, 2023. A pre-trial conference, to allow the judge and lawyers an opportunity to discuss issues related to the case, is scheduled for Nov. 3.
Big Bull is accused of killing 16-year-old Tregan Crow Eagle, whose remains were found July 27, 2020 wrapped in a tarp at a dumpsite on the Piikani Nation. The teen had been reported missing and was last seen five days earlier.
During a brief hearing in January of last year, court was told Big Bull had completed a fitness assessment, and was declared fit to stand trial.
