An arrest warrant has been issued for a Calgary man accused of illegally fishing in a southern Alberta Reservoir.
Hai Cheng Chen was scheduled to appear in Lethbridge provincial court Monday on a single charge of unlawful possession of white fish, but when he didn’t show up, the warrant was issued.
Chen’s matter was in court last week, as well, along with four co-accused. But while the four co-accused resolved their charges, Chen adjourned his matter and was expected to resolve it Monday.
The four men pleaded guilty April 4 in Lethbridge provincial court to charges of unlawful possession of 28 lake white fish, for which they were fined $1,000 each. All but one of the men also pleaded guilty to fishing with a net and were fined an additional $200 each.
Court was told Fish and Wildlife officers watched the men as they used nets to illegally fish at the Cross Coulee Reservoir south of Raymond on Nov. 23 of last year. The officers saw three of the men net fishing, while two other men held two coolers, one containing 19 fish, and the other nine fish.
The men were ordered to pay the fines within six months, although they can apply for an extension.
